Florida Ethics Rules Prescribes Procedures for Leaving Firms and Dissolving Firms
Florida Rules of Professional Conduct, Rule 4-5.8 Procedures for Lawyers Leaving Law Firms and Dissolution of Law Firms
Brief Summary
This is the first time an ethics rule clearly spells out for lawyers the circumstances under which they may contact firm clients when they are leaving a law firm or when a firm dissolves, and what they may communicate to firm clients. The rule also reminds lawyers that it is the client’s decision as to which lawyer will represent that client.
