Ethics Opinion: A Lawyer May Refer a Non-Client to Other Competent Counsel Even if the Non-Client is Adverse to a Client of the Referring Lawyer
District of Columbia Legal Ethics Committee – Ethics Opinion 326 (Adopted December 2004)

Brief Summary

One way to view this opinion is as an example of a situation in which our “officer of the court” role trumps—but only in part—our “zealous representation” role. On the other hand, the Opinion does not require that recommendations to other counsel be made. It merely permits such recommendations to be made.
